The best down comes from a mature bird between 6 and 8 months old when the down clusters are the largest, densest, and strongest. The geese are reared outdoors in large enclosures to provide food for the community, which means that the down only becomes available when the geese are used for food. Since the birds are allowed to live until they are fully grown, they provide very large and fine down.
